Following is one of the many letters we have received from Merlin & Tristin since they have arrived at their new home:

Dear Marshlyn,

When we were born and very little we thought you were the wisest woman in the world, but we now have our doubts! How could you sell us to someone who lives in the coldest snowiest part of the world!? We tried to plow our way to our favorite places in the pasture, but now the snow is deeper than we are tall so we have given up, as you can see from the photographs, we have enclosed. Oh, sure, she let's us play in the big part of the barn, but after we have knocked down all the wood piles, shoved the wheelbarrow around, and scattered the contents of the grooming box around, we get pretty bored. We think she's is stupid because she trudges out to the barn several times a day with warm water for us, and chops away with a pickaxe at the ice and snow so the barn doors can open and close. Even we little donkeys know there must be warmer, greener pastures somewhere! She used to spend lots of time scratching, cuddling, and talking to us. Now, on the coldest days, we are lucky to get a quick pat and a carrot and off she goes back to the warm house. We heard her say, "Spring will soon come." What is 'spring'??? And will it ever really come?? We are getting very bored even with lots of milk jugs to shove around and we question your wisdom in allowing us to be sent to the wilderness of Siberia! We think that's where we are.

Purchased by Mike White in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. Mercury is a yearling jack sired by Arbor Ledge Little Red and out of Ass-Pirin Acres Magdelena. Merk will be standing at stud next year!

Testimony from his new owner:

"I want you to know that Merk settled in so easily you would have thought he had been born here. Most donkeys keep to the donkey group, and the horses stick to the horse groups. Not Merk. He doesn't care if he is eating hay with horses or donkeys. I never saw a donkey so comfortable around horses before. The vet was here Tuesday to do pregnancy checks. Merk was wandering about the barn checking things out. The vet was amazed that he was so comfortable around the barn and the people and all things so new to him. Traveling home in the van he buddied up with Bob, who rode in back of the van with him. He was quite happy munching on hay and seemed to enjoy the ride. It has been my experience that donkeys back into a corner and stand absolutely still for the first day or two while being transported. He will be wonderful to take to shows. Nothing bothers him. I want you to know I think he is wonderful ! Conformation, color, pedigree, size, disposition ! He has it all."
